Every day, we expand our capabilities to meet the changing needs of the biotechnology market. Kerry’s products have evolved with market trends in cell culture over the past 50 years to fulfill our customers’ requirements and have grown to encompass modern plant-based hydrolysates, yeast extracts, recombinant proteins, cell-line–tailored supplement systems, and chemically defined media. Kerry has the vast global resources and technical platform to deliver consistent, high-quality products backed by unparalleled service, technical support, and formulation customization capabilities.

Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells are widely used in the biopharmaceutical industry to produce recombinant proteins. Current strict regulatory norms for the biopharmaceutical industry has led to the wide use of serum-free culture processes, including chemically defined (CD) medium. A significant amount of time and investment are required on the part of a business to develop an optimal CD medium that fits both process and company needs. Many companies may not have the resources to develop their own CD media.

Kerry has developed AmpliCHO CD medium for extended growth and enhanced recombinant protein production for CHO suspension cultures. AmpliCHO CD medium is a protein free, serum free, chemically defined medium that has been optimized so that it can be seamlessly combined with Kerry’s individual plant-based hydrolysates and its series of Sheff CHO systems.

AmpliCHO CD medium was evaluated across a number of suspension CHO DG44 and CHO-K1 cell lines and has outperformed a number of other competitive CD medium (Figures 1 and 2). It can be used as a basal medium without anything added or can have additional elements added based on customer requirements. If currently using insulin or supplementing your CHO clone with glucose and/or l-glutamine, we recommend you continue to do so with this medium.
