Concurrently with the above success, Hudson Street Press published a book by TIME magazine's Alice Park called The Stem Cell Hope: How Stem Cell Medicine Can Change Our Lives. It tells the “life-science story of this decade” from the perspective of the people shaping the field. Park focuses on key individuals — scientists, politicians, and average citizens — who have defined this emerging field of stem cell science. She has covered the field for over a decade and here allows the people behind the technology to come forward and tell their stories. Their excitement, anxiety, and sometimes frustration in the vanguard of a revolution in medicine is both palpable and inspiring. For many, motivation comes from personal incentive: e.g., a child with diabetes or a sister with Lou Gherig's disease. The book describes the battles these pioneers have had to wage just to get the chance to work with stem cells at all. And it provides a glimpse of their far-reaching vision for how science and technology can move forward, eventually to treat patients and even cure disease.
Facility Design Strategies for Single-Use Technologies
Please join us for a free webinar addressing strategies for facility design in biopharmaceutical manufacturing:
Wednesday, 29 February 2012
8:00 AM and 1:00 PM EST
Presented by:
Ingrid Long, MSc
Research Engineer
GE Healthcare Life Sciences
During the webinar, Ms. Long will discuss the impact of different strategies for facility design, with a focus on the following topics:
* Replacement of traditional equipment with the single-use equivalent
* Biopharmaceutical manufacturing in a single room
* Benefits of facility design with respect to cost, risk, and flexibility
