Celeros Separations LLC Releases New Line of Automatic Piston Discharge Centrifuges for Bioprocessing Industry

celeros-125-200x300.jpgFormerly known as Celeros, Inc in Foxborough, MA, Celeros Separations LLC has been acquired by its founder Robert Bret Carr and is now under new ownership and management based in Durham, NC. This change of ownership is effective as of January, 2017.

The Celeros family of APD centrifuges, which includes the APD-75, APD-125, APD-250 and APD 125 II, are semicontinuous automatic solids-discharge high-speed tubular bowl centrifuge. The core technology is the unification of three unique features in one package: the first is a patented Automatic Piston Discharge (APD) technology. APD allows complete transferring of separated solids from the bowl without operator intervention; the second is its high speed for powerful separation. The narrow geometric design of the bowl allows powerful rotational forces from 0 &ndash 20,000 x G, giving superior centrate clarification and solid isolation; the third is its low shear mechanism for shear-sensitive materials. The gentle acceleration of the feed flow, the flooded feed inlet and submerged centrate outflow together minimize shear to fragile cells or sensitive proteins.

Celeros multipurpose APD centrifuge is designed to address the needs of laboratory and production process applications up to 10,000 L. The benefits of the APD centrifuge are focused on minimizing product loss and liquid clarification in a fully contained aseptic process. Equally important, its full automation minimizes labor as well as prevents product contamination and associated risks. The APD has proven to be the most efficient clarifier in the centrifuge industry by outperforming the scraper and disc stack centrifuges in all bio-separations. Throughput is superior to other centrifuge types by as much as threefold. For solids collection, the tightly fitted automatic piston enables you to collect all solids for recovery. Unlike other centrifuge designs, the APD design eliminates the problematic issues of clogged discharge nozzles and product hang-up. APD centrifuge enables bioprocessors to collect and discharge up to 99.9+% of isolated solids with no manual intervention. For the removal of shear sensitive precipitates or cells, APD model is the only option contrasts to other commonly used tubular bowl centrifuges.

The Celeros APD separation system sets new standards for yield and purity and can provide substantial economic benefits. Equipped with superior clean-in-place (CIP), steam-in-place (SIP) systems, thermal control, full-vacuum operation, and PLC controls, APD centrifuges have been successfully tested and approved for laboratory pilot and production scale operations in a variety of applications: microbial, fungal, insect cell, algae, mammalian, blood work, and plasma fractionation.

New APD 125 II Centrifuge
Under the continuous development efforts, Celeros has new products: APD 125 II centrifuge. APD 125 II features two versions. Version 1 has CIP and SIP capability, and version 2 has a single-use disposable feature. Both are equipped with the same 20,000 x G, same process capabilities and the same wide range of applications as the previous design. We have good reasons to believe that is the best bioprocess centrifuge available worldwide. Both versions feature:
1. A significantly simplified mechanical structure that will allow much easier manufacturing and maintenance.
2. Exclusion of any liquid/air interface to avoid foaming and product oxidation.

These two designs will provide the bioprocess engineer with options that were not available until now.
